Reticulocytes and Iron-Deficiency Anaemia: The Response Marker
Reticulocytes normally represent 0.5–2.5% of circulating red cells. In active blood loss or haemolysis, the marrow responds within days by releasing more reticulocytes; in production failure (iron, B12 or folate deficiency, marrow disease), the reticulocyte remains inappropriately low.
